Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington state. The project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 56 million gallons (212 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct of plutonium-production during World War II and the Cold War era.

The cleanup project is one of DOE’s most technically challenging and the largest undertaking of its kind—equivalent to building two nuclear power plants. The construction site spans 65 acres (26 hectares) and includes facilities for pretreatment, low-activity waste vitrification, and high-level waste vitrification, as well as an analytical laboratory.

Positions located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) work a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. All other work locations (Richland WA, San Francisco CA and Reston VA work a 9-80’s schedule, M-F 7:00 am to 4:30 pm with alternating Fridays off.

Role Overview:

- Has knowledge of the contract deliverable scope and ability to identify changes and estimate the cost & schedule impacts of changes in work scope.
- Identify issues that represent technical or financial risk to Project Management.
- Ensure assigned design engineering scope is performed in a manner which is compliant with procedures, applicable codes and regulations, timely, cost-effective and to a professional standard.
- Perform reviews and formal checking of assigned discipline engineering deliverables.
- Develop and manage material requisitions for the bid, award and delivery of control devices, systems and components.
- Selection of instrumentation in conjunction with process and mechanical requirements.
- Ensure interface with Acquisition Services to seek quotations and support the award of purchase orders.
- Ensure interface with project system engineers to receive input for the technical content of procurement packages.
- Ensure review of supplier document submittals for compliance with the specified requirements

Basic Qualifications:

- BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Computer or Electro-Mech engineering or engineering technology with 1 years of progressive technical experience working as a Control Systems Engineer.
- EIT Certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.

Additional Information:

Minimum Qualifications

- Prior experience in the specification and procurement of control systems hardware.
- Must be willing to travel to job site and vendor facilities as required.
- Must be able to clear a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Positions located at the construction site must also pass a physical exam.

Preferred Qualifications

- Prior work experience in the procurement on nuclear quality equipment to the requirements of NQA-1.
- Prior work experience with cost variance analysis.
- Possess the legal right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
