Helping Hands

My mother has stage four lung cancer, and tonight my father tells me his biopsy came up malignant for prostate cancer. I go over there almost everyday and try to help them with any of their basic household needs. As I was cleaning today, I realized there are probably many other men, women, and seniors that may be in the same situation. Unable to do their basic housecleaning, dusting, vacuuming, dishes, perhaps laundry, even taking the trash can out to the street! And as I was walking my parent's dog after dinner, I thought about all those dogs that may not be able to get walked anymore.

It drives my parents crazy that they are slowing down. even though they are both ill and undergoing treatments. My mother , who is 62, is on chemo, steroids, blood thinners, white blood cell shots. She just had another surgery, has had blood tranfusions, blood clots that put her in the hospital for five days, radiation, constant blood tests, x-rays, cat scans, pet scans, ultrasounds, etc. And my 71 yr old father has been so busy trying to take care of her, the house and working part time because he has to, just finds out he is going to have to have surgery and radiation. And they are upset with themselves for not having more energy to take care of the mundane household tasks?!!! I think they are amazing.

I am offering my services to any of these people in need. If you need someone to clean your home, or even come over and just walk your dog, I would love to help you! If you have a mother or father that may fit this situation, and you cannot get to them as often as you would like due to work or distance (like many of my siblings), I would love to help you! I moved close to my parents so I could be near to help, but that is not always possible for many families. They live in Sun City, so I am there almost everyday. I live in Homeland so I could travel from Sun City to Hemet, or anywhere in between.

I am in between jobs and I would like to fill my time doing service for others who I know would appreciate it. I also empathize with your feelings of not being able to perform many once simple physical tasks anymore. I am not a "professional" house cleaner, but I am a 41 year old with three grown boys, two dogs, and two cats! I have also had the pleasure of being a caregiver to a wonderful lady a few years ago.

I AM NOT ASKING FOR ANY MONEY! I will use your cleaning supplies.

I discussed this idea with my parents tonight. They both agreed there are probably many others , especially in the Sun City area, which could use the same kind of help that I give to them. They told me to go for it. So here I am, going for it!
