The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for monitoring the overall financial health and viability of the Federation and its subsidiaries / related organizations. The CFO participates in major business decisions to maximize the value of our financial resources. This role helps shape the success of the Federation by tracking the progress of key operations against planned objectives, forecasting outcomes while identifying needed corrections, and strongly influencing key operational decisions in order to achieve financial success. Working closely with the Executive Director and Executive Leadership Team, the CFO: (1) provides leadership and facilitation in the resolution of highly strategic and sensitive issues or projects of regional, cross-entity or cross-functional importance; (2) leads teams to gather data, research and consolidate issues, summarizing information and making recommendation with relevant stakeholders to advance Kaiser Permanente and the Permanente Medical Groups- agenda; (3) routinely and proactively represents the Permanente Medical Groups- positions in meetings, committees and in developing interrelated functional projects, and communication plans; (4) oversees the functional area of finance and accounting within The Permanente Federation. Essential Functions:- Provides financial leadership in operational areas including the oversight of: internal controls; accounting processes; financial reporting; financial risk management and insurance; business/financial planning and analysis; financial performance measurement; budgeting/forecasting; decision support; cost structure/cash flow improvements; and, retirement plan investments. - Represents the Permanente Medical Groups on national committees/work groups regarding benefit design and administration. - Represents the Permanente Medical Groups on the KP Investment Committee which oversees the Trust Assets for KP-s pension and defined contribution plans. - Through the KP Investment Committee, monitors the financial status of KP pension plans considering regulatory, accounting and internal policy requirements. - Functions as a business -ambassador- demonstrating confidence, business acumen, negotiating, interpersonal, and communication skills to represent the Federation in critical business dealings. - Facilitates/coordinates the meetings of the Finance Executives of the Permanente Medical Groups to discuss key, strategic initiatives and Health Plan financial considerations. - Influences major investments, contracts and other financial decisions to improve cash flows and reduce costs. - Evaluates market opportunities and competitive positioning for financial impact. - Provides strategic leadership for financial planning through the use of business insight and operational understanding. - Coordinates with the KP National Venture Fund, legal counsel, and Permanente Medical Groups for offerings, distributions, and accounting. - Travel as required (approximately 15% of time). - Primary Location: California-Oakland-Ordway One Kaiser Plaza. Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: Experience - Minimum fifteen (15) years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in a health care setting. - Minimum ten (10) years of experience in various financial areas such as general accounting, cost accounting, financial planning, and financial information systems. Education - BS degree in business, accounting, or finance. License, Certification, Registration - N/A. Additional Requirements: - Demonstrated ability to work effectively with physicians and to lead professionals through influence and collaboration. - Outstanding leadership and communication skills. - Demonstrated experience in successfully managing complex organizational initiatives and change efforts. - Superior communication, consulting, facilitation, negotiation, conflict management, problem resolution, and consensus building skills. - Excellent written/verbal presentation and listening skills, and the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences. - Proven ability to provide professional/technical guidance to stakeholders. - Superior organizational and planning skills. - Knowledge of data processing and the application of data processing to various accounting systems. - Demonstrates performance in strategic/operations analysis and planning, analytical techniques, financial and market assessments. Preferred Qualifications: - Thorough experience and/or knowledge in the health care industry and managed care preferred. - MBA preferred. - CPA preferred. - Key understanding of Kaiser Permanente-s operations, structure, and history preferred.
