The Marketing Manager provides leadership within the department, and works with the team to support the company’s strategic goals. The role will oversee marketing projects, sales support, events, communications and tradeshows ensuring that objectives are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and parameters. The specific function and focus of the position is in the personal care industry. Thus, this position requires someone well-versed in a wide variety of personal and household care applications. They are a significant contributor towards maximizing Kemin’s marketing efforts and execute specific assignments within the strategic plan which help to drive market share and industry growth. The position is considered to be a “hands-on” role, involved in day-to-day operations.

* Developing short and long term marketing plans for the personal care business with a focus on existing technologies and development of new products and applications that meet customer needs.

* Coordinating, developing and communicating Kemin technologies and data for the US and global markets.

* Providing effective marketing support to the sales staff, key strategic customers and all other potential customers.

* Monitoring competitive products, sales and marketing activities; develop category knowledge and understanding and provide useful analysis and insight.

* Developing product positioning, packaging, and pricing strategy to produce the highest possible long-term market share and profitability.

* With a strong customer focus, targeting of customers with Sales Managers and monitoring to ensure agreed upon objectives are met.

* Translating research data into product performance updates and technical bulletins.

* Educating sales teams and providing training to the teams in order to achieve successful sales opportunities.

* Presenting to customers at the request of sales staff.

* Managing advertising and promotion activities, including print, point-of-sale, online, electronic media, and direct mail.

* Managing tradeshow activities.

* Working with R&D; to prepare plans for additional science to support product line growth and sustainability.

* Preparing monthly marketing activity reports.

* Managing day-to-day operational functions of the marketing department.

* Other responsibilities as assigned.

* Master’s Degree/MBA with an emphasis in product marketing with at least 3 years of related personal care industry experience; Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Marketing, with up to 5-7 years of related personal care industry experience.

* Experience in one of the life sciences is also preferred.

* Excellent organizational skills and project management skills with the ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects efficiently in order to meet deadlines.

* A reliable, flexible, self-starter with strong initiative and the ability to maintain a professional demeanor while working under pressure as there is a high level of accountability for one’s work.

* High attention to detail, high accuracy, and analytical abilities.

* Energetic and business-minded with the ability to provide marketing leadership, set priorities, delegate responsibilities, and meet timetables.

* Experience as an effective marketing manager, project team player, leader and motivator; and the ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with customers, vendors, peers and all levels of management.

* Demonstrated achievement of meeting marketing objectives.

* Strong marketing, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, and critical-thinking skills.

* Solid financial skills with the ability to analytically evaluate and understand budget costs.

* Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Lotus Notes, with intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Other software may be required, such as graphics software (InDesign, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Design Suite, etc.).

* Advanced PC knowledge with MS Office and/or Graphics software desired.

* Must have a marketing mentality combined with marketing training and experience as it relates to marketing products in the industry, with the ability to gather key information and translate into an exceptional promotional piece.

* A high degree of personal motivation, a desire to make an immediate contribution, and possession of a distinct sense of urgency.

* The position requires the ability to gather information and take the initiative to make decisions when deadlines occur.

* Demonstrated integrity and honesty in all aspects, and able to maintain confidentiality and protect intellectual property.

* Ability to develop and maintain effective strategic relationships with key partners including external agencies, freelancers, media, and technology companies. The role is responsible for building relationships with major trade publication editors to position Kemin as an advisor and content source for technical and industry issues.

* Solid understanding and practical hands-on knowledge of various forms of interactive media, including but not limited to website enhancements (features, functionality and content) & implementation, program development and execution, Internet Ratings & Reviews, social networking/online communities, search engine marketing along with a deep understanding of the latest online marketing technologies, techniques and best practices.

* Experience with content management tools.

* International experience highly desired.

* Ability to adapt to a changing work environment and stay on top of latest online technologies, techniques and best practices.

* The ability to remember projects, numbers and costs and other details.

**WORKING CONDITIONS:** The Marketing Manager is based at the Kemin Personal Care headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa. The exempt level position is considered 40 hours per week but requires flexibility. 20-25% required domestic and international travel is anticipated.
