General Description

Under general direction, develops and leads all phases of Excellence proces to improve operational performance, reduce cost, enhance safety, or maintain compliance. Establishes a zero defect operating culture, promoting continuous improvement, and delivering World Class sustainable performance. Leverages and leads productivity initiatives based on best practices and development of improved processes.



Essential Job Functions

Developes and maintains a system that supports and sustains continuous improvement methodologies throughout the business, establishes a culture that encourages individuals at all levels to participate in continuous improvement activities, and benchmark best practices so that successes, failures, and obstacles can be identified, communicated and leveraged across the entire organization.



Responsible for developing, recommending and managing an overall continuous improvement strategy in coordination with Reliability Excellence team leaders and senior management.



Developes specific cost reduction action plans and goals to include determining time frames and objective measurements for the organization.



Acts as primary contact and works in conjunction with the Plant Managers and QSRC Managers for large customer initiated continuous improvement activities.



Facilitates cross-functional team performance; overseeing root-cause analysis, data collection, and problem solving.



Assists in developing overall and facility-specific process improvement goals and objectives. Coordinates and champions activities to meet or exceed those goals.



Leads periodic facility continuous improvement reviews for roll up into zone or all-site review.



Facilitates cross-functional lean workshops. Provides targeted education, leadership, and guidance throughout the workshop process. Works with plant management to ensure successful follow up to workshops. Leads teams where appropriate to demonstrate and realize optimal lean solutions.



Actively participates in deploying Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing initiatives across all facilities through use of existing and new lean manufacturing tools and processes.



Mentors others in the lean manufacturing concepts and promotes the lean culture in the organization. Works with colleagues to help identify, realize and optimize lean solutions within the economic capability of the plant.



Identifies targets and prioritizes areas and processes for the application of improvement processes. Determines the appropriate tools and methodologies and timing of improvement activity to achieve business objectives.



Establishes objectives for kaizen teams with DPOs and Plant Managers, facilitates kaizen events, and provides support and follow up for any open items.



Drives behavioral change across the organization, including support functions, through coaching and influencing employees. In cooperation with Human Resources, initiates and supports training and education programs by using continuous improvement tools to build sustainable employee capability.



Assists in maintaining a safe, clean, secure and efficient working environment by implementing and enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.



Contributes to team effort by performing to the guidelines outlined in the code of business conduct, the GMP and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher level management and accomplishes other duties as assigned.



Communicates in an effective manner by utilizing accepted business practices in a courteous and professional manner providing timely and accurate responses and service-oriented offers of assistance.



Education/License Requirements

Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Black Belt or Lean expert is preferred.



Experience Requirements

Requires a minimum of seven to ten years project management experience in utilizing lean manufacturing concepts such as kaizen, kanban, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, demand flow technology, and Six Sigman to develop improvements to manufacturing operations.
