JOB DESCRIPTION

RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Medical Director, administers X-rays to patients. Operates X-ray equipment, develops film, and prepares patient's room, equipment and supplies. Provides patient services using imaging modalities.

MAJOR TASKS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides care for the patient

Prepares work area, equipment and materials as needed for patients.

Cleans and disinfects X-ray equipment and work area.

Prepares patient for X-ray explains procedures, positions patient and assists patient at end of procedures.

Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports unusual occurrences and records patient's condition.

Follows prescribed techniques in administering general and specific X-rays. (Adjusts equipment; determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time).

Arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient; adjusts lead shield, and selects proper film.

Develops film in accordance with photographic techniques.

Completes proper documentation and record keeping functions.

Notifies radiologists of all STAT exams needing interpretation. Maintains stock supplies.

Maintains van and equipment in proper running order.

Wears film badges while making radiation exposures,

Assists Chief Technologist in maintaining radiographic technique charts and other QC/PI functions.

Participates in the Hazardous Material Program- Hazards include exposure to blood and body fluids, possible communicable diseases, sharp objects and instruments, assorted chemicals and gasses as listed in the Hazardous Materials Program Manual.

Develops an understanding of responsibilities for participation in QC/PI activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Certification or licensure as required by State.

• The American Registry of Registered Technologists,

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Must be able to work under stress and in emergency situations.

• Must be able to work under conditions that require sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pulling, pushing and grasping with risk of environmental exposure to communicable disease.

• Talking and hearing to effectively convey instructions and information to patients and staff members.

• Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with other staff members, referral sources, patients and their families and physicians.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE/PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

This employee is in Category I. Requirements for Personal Protective Equipment are:

• Gloves when coming in contact with body secretions.

• Protective covering when in isolation setting,

• Face shield when there is potential for splash from body secretions.

• Film badges and lead aprons.
