First Time Homebuyers Tax Credit

In 2008, Congress enacted a tax credit of 10% of the purchase price of a home, up to $7,500 designed to be an incentive for first time home buyres to purchase a home. The credit must be paid back in 15 equal payments beginning in 2010.

For 2009, Congress has increased the maximun credit to up to $8,000, changed the repayment requirements and made other improvements. This revised tax credit applies to purchases on of after January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009.
