CNA/Cook

August 28, 2012-September 29, 2012

Hospice/Assistant Living Home for the Elderly and Disabled

St. James Living Facility/Columbus, GA

Healthcare Services

At St. James Assistant Living Facility I was a CNA in training. I received my CPR and First Aid certification through American Red Cross and my certification will not expire until 2014. While at St. James I worked closely with the owner Ms. Pat. Ms. Pat was training me in the administrative procedures of an assistant living home because of my bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration I received from University of Phoenix April 30, 2012.

My job included cleaning the patient’s rooms and assisting the patients with their medication. I didn’t administer any medications I just supervised the patients while they took and administered their own medications. I recorded when medication was given and had to deal with difficult patients on a daily basis. Many patients were able to care for themselves besides some stroke patients and diabetic patients who had to be monitored or assisted with daily activities like bathing or outside walks or exercise.

I worked all shifts morning, evening, and overnight shifts. I was responsible for washing the patients clothes making sure the patients were in bed on time and received their medications on time. I helped the RN Veronica Coldpepper with the nutrition menu and I also help the cook prepare the meals. I have experience dealing with frail older patients who need more patience from me or other coworkers. I never complained about the work load and provided Mrs. Pat and Mrs. Coldpepper with my best work. Mrs. Pat was interested in expanding/opening another facility which is why I was training under her cause she asked me if I would like to be the administrative head of her new facility.
