Professional Artist Marcia Wise will be holding painting classes and private instruction starting in September at her studio on River Road in Deerfield, MA for both teens and adults. Her teaching approach is particularly unique in that she focuses on students’ bold application of full color, a technique used by impressionist artists. Marcia has been teaching for 35 years and works with concepts from the Impressionist School of Provincetown, MA while encouraging personal growth and development.
Students will dive into the world of color and light. Classes begin with learning an understanding of the basics of color theory through simple studies that will lead to still life painting in class, while preparing to also approach landscape, portraiture, and abstraction using these techniques. Brushes and palette knives will be used to paint with, and concentration will begin with color applications, color relationships and how light affects these processes. Students will use palette knives to concentrate on color first rather than on details. All elements of creating a successful painting (i.e., composition, perspective, etc.) will be discovered as we engage in the process. When weather allows, classes will be outdoors “en plein air.”
No matter where one’s painting interests lie, or whether a beginner or experienced, the lessons from the classes will enhance any individual’s work. There are no prerequisites except the desire to learn to experience color in new, bold and fearless ways. Individual attention and encouragement is a priority given in a safe, positive, joyful environment.
Individual instruction and small group classes are held in the artist’s studio. Please call 413-773-3101 or email Marcia at mewise498@comcast.net for more information. The artist’s work and a partial resume can be seen on the website www.marciawise.com. References are also available.
