How do our brains determine how we play? A research study for mommy and me!

Play behavior is important in the development of social and emotional health in young children. We are interested in how the brain influences play. During the research, we will record the child’s and the mother’s heart rate and breathing during a series of short play sessions (mother/child playing together and researcher/child playing together). The total duration of the study is approx 2 hours. Mothers and children must be in good general health. Children must be between ages 3 and 12 months and typically-developing. All children will receive a free developmental assessment as part of the research. The research session takes place at the UIC Brain-Body Center. Free parking or travel compensation (up to $10) will be provided. Parents will be compensated $75 for participating. The project is being conducted by Dr. Stephen W. Porges (UIC Dept of Psychiatry, 1747 W. Roosevelt, Chicago, IL 60608).

For more information, please call the Brain-Body Center at 312-996-3167 or send e-mail to Senta Furman at sfurman@psych.uic.edu.
