Salvation can't be bought!
So many get this wrong, they think a ticket to heaven can be bought with earthly money; many think you can just throw some money at a problem and it is solved. Wrong answer! What about the folks that have no money, are they excluded?
Believe it or not, tithing actually has a true purpose. The true purpose follows: we are encouraged to aid and support the sharing of God's true word, not to muzzle it or counter it by supporting false teachings. What happens when we support the teaching of God's true word? By tithing correctly, His truths can be shared with more people; this results in increasing the size of the Kingdom of God; it's not a self-centered act. What happens if we support someone that teaches falsely? 2 John 1:9-11 tells us. Don't support someone who teaches a doctrine other than Christ's; you partake of their evil deeds if you do.
Proverbs 11:4 (You can't buy your salvation. Believing in Him and repenting of sin results in eternal life).
Zephaniah 1:18 (Again, you can't buy your salvation. See 1 Peter 1:18 also. Don't let traditions of men mislead you).
How do you know if a teaching is false? See if it checks out in God's word and aligns with it totally; verify it, one way or the other (is it true or false?). Try the spirits, see 1 John 4:1. This responsibility falls on each and everyone of us; we as individuals must take action by verifying it one way or the other.
Keep studying the entire Bible. You'll be absolutely amazed at what is actually in there.
