James 1:22 (KJV) But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
[Listen to the word and obey it. What happens if you only hear it and take no action on your part? You deceive yourself].
John 8:31 (KJV) Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
[“If” is a big word, it is conditional. You are a true disciple of Christ “if” you remain faithful to His Word. (I John 2:24), Let the Word dwell in you and you will be walking in the light and in close fellowship with the Father and His Son. Can you be one of His disciples “if” you don't continue in His word? See Matthew 7:21 also].
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
[“Continue” in His word through study of that word. Become a true disciple. Where do you find that word of truth? John 17:17 tells you. One reason you study is to learn of Christ's doctrines. How else will you learn of those doctrines]?
Disciple of Christ [A learner; a scholar; one who receives instruction from Christ; A follower; an adherent to the doctrines of His word].
Continue [abide, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry, not to perish, to last, endure].
Deuteronomy 7:11 (KJV) Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them. (This is one of the many verses that tell us what God wants from us. “If” you do what He commands us to do, expect blessings. “If” you don’t do what He commands us to do, expect punishment, chastisement, etc.).
The following definitions help us to better understand what God wants from us; learn and do.
Commandments: Spiritual, never change, in effect forever.
Statutes: Ritual, can and do change, blood ordinances would be an example; they were nailed to the cross with Jesus Christ.
Judgments: Civil/personal, do them/reward, don’t do them/punishment.
