There is a lot of potential for basements. They don’t just need to be for storage. Basements are typically overlooked and seen as an unattractive place where no one wants to go. This is not true for our team at iRemodel Home Renovations. We have a few tips and tricks for you that will help make your basement a place where everyone wants to hang out.
Let in Light
When you think of a basement, you probably thing of somewhere dark and dreary, filled with boxes and junk. We know that basements don’t usually have big bright windows, by their nature, they are not always conducive for much natural light. Most basements are built under the ground and might only have enough above ground room for very small windows. This is typically why people don’t want to hang around in them. A few different ways to let more light in is to add window wells, light shafts, or even artificial track lighting. These will increase the natural light in your basement, making it more pleasant to be down there.
Make It Welcoming
In order to make your basement user friendly, make it into a cozy and comfortable space to be in. It can be a second family/TV room for people to spend time in. To make sure it doesn’t seem darker than it already is, we suggest painting the walls a nice, bright, and cheery colour. You can even add some carpet, decorations, and plush furniture to invite family and friends to spend time down there. There are even some plants that can survive on low sunlight, that you could get to add to the ambiance of your new basement.
