Opt students, also known as Optional Practical Training students, are international students studying in the United States who are eligible for a period of temporary employment related to their field of study. This employment can last up to 12 months, with an additional 24-month extension available for those in certain STEM fields. OPT is intended to provide practical experience and skill-building opportunities to international students, while also benefiting US employers and the economy as a whole.
