Being the highest peak in the Western Ghats and in South India, the Anamudi Peak is located in the pleasant hill station of Munnar in the Eravikulam National Park of the Kerala state. It has a topographic prominence of 2,479 metres. ‘Anamudi’ refers to – elephant’s forehead. It is named after this because the mountain literally looks like an elephant’s forehead. This peak is home to Asian Elephants, Gaurs and the rare NilgiriTahrs. The peak is prominent for the NeelaKurinji flowers which bloom every twelve years. What is remarkably beautiful to watch from here is the Vaigai and Thamirabarani Rivers flowing eastward and the Periyar River flowing into the Arabian Sea. Trekkers fall in love with this place because it gives one a satisfying experience like never before. A lot of wildlife, cultivation of spices and water bodies can be seen from the peak. The sunrise is a treat to the eyes and words will not suffice to explain the beauty of it.
