I. Job Summary


The Field Safety Leader position is responsible for the Training, Coaching and Development of CDL drivers and Technicians for a medium sized (100 employees) refuse hauling district. It includes but is not limited to, classroom oral presentations, on road observations, and one on one mentoring of WM safe driving practices, safe work rules and alike. Employee engagement and retention are critical factors and as such, the field safety leader is a stake holder in driving these metrics.





II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following tasks.



• Operates vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules. OSHA. (Occupational and Safety Health Act) and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, municipal, state, and federal laws.
• Perform, and Instruct pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment and documents checks on standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report.).
• Instructs drivers on proper use of equipment, develops driver mentors.
• Immediately report any unsafe situations or conditions to Route Manager or District Manager.
• Participate, Develop and Present scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings required by Waste Management or Route Manager.
• Works closely with Route Managers to improve Safety metrics and identifies, develops and implements best practices.
• Performs On-Road Observations and coach drivers on opportunities.
• Performs Drive-Cam review and coach drivers on findings
• Completes and maintains employee training documents.
• Develops and performs IAP (individual assessment plan) training with drivers that underperform in safety.
• Performs accident/Incident investigations.
• Performs all duties as scheduled by Route Manager or District Manager in assisting site with safety metrics.

IV. Qualifications


The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.





A. Education and Experience


Education: (2yr) Associate degree preferred





Experience: 5 year(s) of relevant work experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL or equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.





B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements


Hold or obtain a current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL B) with an air brake endorsement.


The CDL is a requirement, therefore, an applicant must be 21 years of age.


Legally eligible to work in the United States.


Successfully complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, physical, and background check, which will include previous employment check, criminal history and motor vehicle record review.





C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required


Oral Presentation skills is highly desirable


Computer literate with excel, word & powerpoint.


Acceptable driving record required;


OSHA/DOT knowledge preferred

• Will be exposed to a physical environment, which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements most of the workday.
