Work week is 37.5 hours, Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Description of Duties:
This position provides professional dental work involving the dental care of inmates.
Supervises the work of the dental hygienist and dental assistant on a daily basis, including the setting of work priorities and job assignments, assigning meal periods and rest periods to ensure uninterrupted services, provides orientation to all newly assigned dental personnel, and prepares individual performance evaluation reports.
Responsible for all aspects of the clinical services provided to the inmate population by DOC dental clinic staff.
Provides basic dental care to the inmate population and performs all dental treatment, which includes the following:
-provides clinical examinations of inmates' teeth and gums for infection/disease
-prepares and fills cavities with restorative materials
-scales and cleans teeth where indicated to correct gum conditions
-provides proper solutions for mouth rinses along with systemic therapies for treatments of diseases
-performs extractions and minor surgeries in compliance with good dental practices
-takes impressions for partial or full dentures: modifies custom trays for initial impressions, pours stone models, makes temporary base plates and wax bite rims to register correct bite relationship, establish facial contour, and accurate teeth shades and dimensions
-ensures that denture molds are packed and sent to outside contracted dental lab
-adjusts completed dentures in inmates mouth, making adjustments to dentures as needed, and provides inmate with proper care and use of his dentures

10. Completes all DOC mandatory trainings.
Meet the minimum experience and training required for the job: Graduation from an approved
school of dentistry.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry
