SUMMARY: Management Business Solutions is seeking a Labor Relations Assistant for our client in Grand Rapids, MI. This is a contract employment opportunity with a possibility of becoming a permanent position. This person will be responsible for providing clerical support to Labor Relations staff, plan and organize office and work flow activities to meet department objectives in a timely manner, makes travel and meeting arrangements, maintain automated appointment calendar, and prepare agendas.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Evaluate work procedures and methods to make certain of quality, effectiveness and efficiency of operations, and anticipate events, trends, consequences and problems.
•Maintain various reference files, assemble and organize data, and prepare various special reports required by the supervisor.
•Draft correspondence for supervisor's approval including formatting, preparing, and editing and verifying information.
•Take notes for meetings, keep official records and reports.
•Perform field investigations of employee grievances, evaluates information obtained, discuss with superiors and make recommendations, and formulate statements outlining the department's position on specific labor relations situations.
•Arrange time, date and place of hearings, and approve and arrange for union members to be in attendance.
•Answer questions concerning labor contracts or procedures.
•Respond to difficult issues and citizen interests or complaints, exercising judgment in accordance with appropriate regulations or policies.
•Ensure confidentiality and oversee the maintenance of all information, correspondence and reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school required.
•Recent experience in the field of labor relations and knowledge of the laws and practices effecting labor relations in the field of public employment preferred.
•Knowledge of departmental operations and organization.
•Knowledge of standard office procedures, effective practices and processes, and office equipment.
•Ability to learn and use specialized language and technical terms.
