When I was living in Los angeles in 1978 I was falsely accused of being the "Hillside Strangler" on national TV by the LAPD and Mike Taibbi who was working for ABC News at the time. These false accusations by a career criminal were broadcast across the country and overseas. My dream of being a screenwriter in Hollywood was destroyed and my Mother's life was ruined.
Lawsuits against the Media are like shutting the barn door after the horse has run out , the damage has already been done, and are too costly and take too long! I sued ABC-TV for libel, slander etc and after ten years and many thousands of dollars in legal fees, the day before my civil trial , ABC informed my lawyer that they would "drag out my lawsuit for another 10 years if I didn't accept their settlement which was only 1/10th of what we wanted. I took their meager settlement because I could not afford to fight ABC's army of lawyers any longer and I vowed to get a NO-Name law passed which would prohibit the police and media from making public a "suspect's" identity until such time he/she is legally charged with a crime! I have tried to get this fair law passed somewhere for 40 years now but the powerful Media Lobby always prevents it's passage into law because false accusations "scoops" are very profitable for them. Read my true story, SURVIVING AMERICA by P.M. Jones on amazon/kindle ebooks. You have my permission to share my story with anyone. I would like to see the NO-NAME LAW a reality before I die. I am 77 now and never want anyone's family to endure the living nightmare I, my family and friends suffered just because a unethical reporter wanted a promotion and his network bosses higher ratings/profits!
