5x10 vs 10x5
When you are shopping around online for storage, you will normally find the size 5x10. This is a standard size that all storage facilities carry. What you will see from time to time is the size 10x5. 10x5 units tend to through people off. Technically, they are the same size.
Now, there are a few things to be aware of. If you look at the attached picture you will see the dimensions listed. Exactly what you see is what both sizes look like. The main difference is that you either have a narrow and long unit or a shallow and wide. They both have pros and cons.
Due to the 5x10 being narrow and long, it makes it difficult to get to items that may not be at the front of the unit. However, you technically get more vertical space. Meaning you can fit more items in your unit. The 10x5 has the benifit of being shallow and wide. Therefore, everything is within arms reach. The downsize is that the rollup door to your unit blocks off half of your veritcal space.
Now, you may think that because they are the same dimension, therefore the same size, that they would be the same price. That is not necessarily true. Usually, the 10x5's are cheaper that the 5x10's. This is due to the 5x10 being more popular due to it being more familiar. So, when shopping, give the 10x5 a chance and save yourself a bit of money.
