Description

The problem:

In fire response, every minute counts. With longer fire seasons, drier fuels, and faster winds, climate change intensifies wildfires, which puts more communities at risk of new ignitions spreading more quickly. It can take hours to identify a wildfire, confirm its precise location and size, and send out first responders because most wildfires nowadays are discovered bystanders and reported through 911. To respond promptly and stop minor flare-ups from turning into destructive infernos, Fire authorities require a quicker method of detecting, verifying, and localizing fires.
