Description

The problem:

Time is of the essence when it comes to responding to fires. As the effects of climate change worsen, wildfires are becoming more intense, with longer seasons, drier fuels, and stronger winds. This means that new fires can spread rapidly, posing a greater risk to communities. Currently, most wildfires are discovered by bystanders and reported through emergency services via 911, which can result in significant delays in detecting the fire, determining its precise location and size, and dispatching first responders. Fire authorities require a quicker method to identify, confirm, and locate fires, enabling them to respond promptly and prevent small fires from escalating into catastrophic infernos.
