DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position provides essential police services through patrols, investigations, enforcement of laws, and response to safety concerns across the Capitol Complex. It involves communication, physical readiness, problem solving, and steady professionalism in demanding situations. As a Capitol Police Officer, you will perform the following duties:
- Patrol Activities: Conduct mobile, foot, and bicycle patrols while maintaining security of buildings and scan points
- Law Enforcement: Apply knowledge of crimes code, vehicle code, and criminal procedure to investigations and arrests
- Crowd Control: Manage crowds, respond to disturbances, and remain calm during verbal abuse or threats
- Emergency Response: Assist victims, carry individuals when needed, and work in extreme weather or physically demanding conditions
- Communication Duties: Monitor and dispatch calls, provide clear responses to service requests, and prepare accurate reports
- Certification Maintenance: Maintain all required departmental and Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) certifications, including first aid, defensive tactics, and weapons qualifications

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Your scheduled is to be determined.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Capital Police Officer Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Successful completion of an equivalent law enforcement officer training or certification program that allows eligibility for commissioning as a police officer.
Special Requirements:
- You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
- You must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
- All employees in this job must have active Act 120 certification obtained through a training program approved by the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) prior to appointment and maintain it for the duration of employment in the job.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- You must pass a background investigation.
- A conditional offer of employment will require satisfactory completion of an MPOETC medical examination, drug screening, psychological examination, and truth verification examination.
- The required testing that MUST be successfully completed includes:
- MPOETC physical exam and drug test
- MPOETC psychological and Nelson-Denny exams
- Physical agility test
- Voice stress or polygraph
