Position: Head Chef (Japanese Specialty Chef)

Wage: CAD$34.00/hour

Types: Full-time, Permanent (various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays)

Working hours: 30~40 hours/week

Benefit: 5.77% of vacation pay

Job Duties:

• Create and develop Japanese-inspired recipes and menu items to strengthen and expand our Japanese food offerings and attract a broader customer base;
• Plan, direct, and oversee food preparation and cooking activities, ensuring consistency and quality;
• Prepare and cook Japanese menu items including maki, rolls, agedashi tofu, karaage, tataki, tempura, and other Japanese-inspired specialty foods and chef’s specials;
• Develop specialty and seasonal menu items to improve menu diversity and enhance customer satisfaction;
• Maintain high standards for food quality, taste, portion control, and presentation of menu offerings;
• Supervise and train kitchen staff in food preparation techniques, presentation standards, and kitchen procedures;
• Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs;
• Lead the recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of the kitchen staff;
• May prepare and cook for special guests, functions, or customers with dietary restrictions or allergies.

Job Requirements:

• Completion of secondary school;
• Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial food preparation, including two years in a supervisory capacity and experience as a sous-chef, specialist chef or chef required.
• Japanese food cooking certificate an asset.
• Skills demonstrations, including taste and plating abilities, may be required.
