The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Deputy Traffic Engineer to join our Traffic Services team.
In this role, you will:
- Coordinate operations of our Division’s Traffic Engineering Signals Group and lead subordinate employees to apply traffic engineering principles in the operation and maintenance of the traffic signals in Division 8.
- Perform traffic engineering investigations.
- Evaluate coordinated signal timings and recommend adjustments.
- Seek funds for safety and operational improvements.
- Assist with the development of traffic signal contracts and post-let technical support.
- Serve as a project manager for signal-related construction projects.
- Conduct traffic investigations and serve as our Division 8 Incident Management Engineer.
What You Bring
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Traffic Engineering, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and NCDOT Signal Specifications and Geometric Design.
- NC General Statutes and Administrative Code knowledge.
- Experience in the operation and timing of Traffic Signals, including signal timing software.
- Experience tracking operation cost expenditures.
- Customer service and communications experience with the public, local government officials, and employees, including public meetings and field reviews.
- Communications skills to communicate verbally and in writing with the public, government officials, employees, and other NCDOT customers.
- Ability to use a laptop and several applications.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Safety toe footwear.
Notes
- We may require you to work in emergency situations, special events, and sometimes in bad weather conditions.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
