THE POSITION
As an Equipment Operator A with the Department of Human Services at Wernersville State Hospital, you will help keep campus operations running smoothly. This role lets you work with many types of equipment while providing important transportation services. Your efforts help maintain safe grounds and steady movement of supplies and materials. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position plays an important role in providing transportation services and supporting maintenance work across the hospital grounds. The work involves operating a variety of equipment while helping keep the campus safe, clean, and organized.
As an Equipment Operator A, you will perform the following duties:
- Vehicle Operation: Operate buses, trucks, vans, tractors, and other equipment to support hospital transportation needs
- Grounds Maintenance: Use mowers and related equipment to maintain safe and well-kept outdoor areas
- Material Transport: Move consumers, employees, supplies, food, and equipment both on and off the hospital grounds
- Equipment Care: Complete safety checks, clean vehicles, and perform minor maintenance tasks to keep equipment in good condition
- Snow Removal: Operate plows, blowers, and de-icing equipment to maintain safe travel during winter conditions
- General Labor: Load materials, clean outdoor areas, and assist with tasks that support facility upkeep

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Weekend shifts are required every third or fourth week.
- Your schedule may change based on operational needs.
- Overtime as needed and subject to emergency call-in

- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,831.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Six months experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses and single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training
Special Requirement:
- You must have possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.
Condition of Employment:
- This position requires the selected candidate to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within the probationary period, in order to meet operational needs.
Other Requirements:
